If you are CERTAIN you have your act together, polished, honed and tight, and you want to get TV etc, what you do next is simple, you need to get seen by people that can help you. It will do you no good to stay in a small area or region and continue to do the same old open mics, showcase stages or even the occasional paid one nighter or weekend from some D list local booker. The BIG TIME is out there and you have to become part of it...more times than not it won't come looking for you.
May I offer suggestions of placing yourself in FOR REAL festivals or even contests where there are not only bookers of rooms but authentic honest to god industry people looking for new talents. You should also try the big city showcases, LA, NY, Chicago or any bigger town or city you're in currently. In other words you have to summon the courage to test yourself in deep waters, travel and compete! You will be amazed at how much you learn about the real business of comedy and yourself.
If it's not stand up you're interested in and more like comedy writing then you need to start finding a way in thru radio shows, cartoonists and even television programs that buy material. How do you find out about these? Google search helps amazingly well, find them and make contact. Make LOTS of contacts. Ask if they use freelancers, you'd be surprised how many do....and then begin to knock their socks off with your ideas and jokes. It's how I got NBC and Jay Leno interested in me and eventually gained a staff writing/producer job for the network and the 'Tonight Show'. Write your way to success.
The bottom line is you have to be willing to test yourself, rework things and make sacrifices. I'd be willing to answer more detailed questions thru my website. Let me hear from you to find out what's next.
