.Don't over saturate yourself with information (input)!!.
In order for me to write I need to read or watch vids about a topic or situation and then place myself in a 'think tank' type environment where my thoughts can roam. I take in some info about whatever it is I want to write about and then walk away from the input to give myself time to think about it.
Limit amusement. Limit your actual writing at first. Give yourself time for those 'Aha' moments.
For me I like to take a walk or go for a drive, anything that will keep me from turning on a TV, radio or pointlessly staring at my laptop screen or surfing the internet. Then I begin by only jotting down short notes, may only be one or two words or just one sentence. (bullet points and images mostly) I of course always look for the emotional points. Many times I just talk into a digital recorder so I don't have to stop and physically write something down.
Trust yourself. For comedy sake don't overlook that first smart ass (emotional) response you blurt out about a topic or idea! Often that first impression your brain and comic soul fires off is golden or at the very least at the heart of your personal funny! THIS IS YOUR INTUITIVE SIDE. Capture that moment whatever it is...DON'T BE AFRAID TO BE RIDICULOUS!! LET IT OUT!!
IN COMEDY INTUITIVE RULES!
I also like to step outside myself every now and then and create a character that will speak about whatever it is I'm wanting to write about. Try it! Speak on your topics or create ideas as the character would do. If nothing else you might create a funny new character along with fresh ideas.
There's more but this is a few things! ;) Now go relax and create something funny!
