ISSUES CAN BE A GOOD THING FOR COMEDY

I've often thought that if I were to boil down my set list to one word it would be issues. I think most every comic artist has issues that are the driving force behind the jokes, observations and rants,... if not perhaps they should be.

Issues are like mistakes; we all experience them, however real comics don't seem to live in fear of the next one. Comedy is that art form that is not only reflective but active in it's feelings it instills into painful moments.

Painters paint, musicians write songs, poets create poems...comics put a smiley face on everything, perhaps a 'yeah right' sneering smirk sometimes as well...that's just as good.

Have you ever considered your issues? Do you have them? Are they reflected in your material?
Make a list and take a look.
Concerns,
controversies,
trust,
questions,
problems,
contentions, in your life can be turned into really funny stuff and a healing at the same time,... for you and relating audiences. That's real powerful art right there.

Issues are often perceived as dark shadows. Comedy puts a shining light to them and attempts a resolution, even if just in a moment's light hearted reflection. If you can smile about it it's on the way to being fixed.

Laughter is often the sound of healing. Why wouldn't you want to bring that to others and yourself?
