10 QUICK THINGS TO AVOID IN COMEDY

Posted on January 23, 2014 at 11:17 AM Comments comments (6)
AVOID....

-negative types.

-jealous thoughts, yours and others.

-mentors that claim they have a secret formula.

-anything instant.

-the traps of drug and alcohol abuse and over inflated ego....both are career crushers and unbearable to be around.

-taking yourself too seriously.

-cliques. ...they are cliche to say the least.

-fooling yourself. ...do the work. Find time to write and work on your art everyday.

-nervousness. ... by understanding that all 'case of the nerves' is not bad...it's simply energy willing to work for you. You have to
do the work that will allow you to plug into and focus that energy.

-a lot of fear. ... by allowing yourself to see thru the absurdity. What absurdity? Everywhere! You can make a case that
performing stand up is FAR LESS absurd and/or complicated than SO many things that you do in life. So prepare and do the thinking
that will allow you to feel more normal doing stand up than anything else...fear will be greatly diminished.
Remember: fear is for the ill prepared.
