There is no doubt in my mind that real comedians have a need to do comedy. You need that need to be funny. If you don't have that need than perhaps you needn't be doing it. No need arguing with me about it, I don't need that right now.

What is needed is the understanding that need is often emotional and the need for emotion in comedy is well documented and founded after much needed research. It should be simple to anybody, need = emotion, the need for emotional things in comedy = getting laughs.

On the other side of the coin, how many times have we been told that laughs are needed by the audience as well, correct? Which means maybe that the same NEED needs to be in performer AND audience. So what the comedy performer needs to understand is how to transform his need into fulfilling the need of the audience to enjoy his/her laugh-fest art form.

So we're both needy people, audience and comic? Sorry, simply summing up, I guess I just needed to make sense out of what I'm thinking about and writing. You don't think I write drafts of this stuff do you? Who needs that?!

Does need fuel art itself? And if so, is there a need for art appreciation in the average person? Is there a connection between how much of this need an artist fulfills for the audience that makes him/her more needed, as in popular? Or is it all just unneeded advertising?

What the heck is NEED anyway? I looked it up. It's a driving force, a motivator. It's necessary for a healthy life. Laughter certainly has been proven to be necessary correct? So one could reason that NEED is needed in order to be driven to becoming a successful artist. In the same way the need to be satisfied is needed in the audience in order to be driven and responsive to come out to see your show. If two needs are met then it's all good right?

So be proud of your need, explore your need, know your need...and most importantly, expect as well as respect the needs of your audience to let go with laughter. Discovering your unique way of meshing your need to their need is a powerful potion to make the magic happen. ~

Maybe we shouldn't call it show business, it's more like needy business. ;)
