THE SECRET TO COMEDY TIMING. (RERUN)

Stand up is simple to those who don't want to do the work. To some it boils down to the fact you simply get on stage and do your jokes until something clicks. To a degree that's it for real. Yup!

Now does that mean that zero effort need be paid to knowing a little something (or a lot of something) about yourself in the process of writing those jokes? Hmmm? Because you know...the more you discover and are in tune with yourself the more inclined you are to write jokes with you in them, that will save tons of time in spawning original material.
You want to save time don't you? Time that can be spent working on all the other difficult things in stand up such as character, voice, timing, tone...etc.
Oh wait a minute though!!...If you begin knowing more about yourself you'll already be thinking in terms of your character...it's a natural. And within your character there is attitude, ...and within attitude is tone and the makings of  voice. If it's your attitude of course that drives your tone...come to think of it... ever seen an attitude played out that didn't have it's own sense of timing??!

Could attitude be a driving force for that mystical comic timing we hear so much about?! You'll never know if you don't give it some thought and put some work behind it, ...at least that's my attitude about the whole thing. ;)
