BREAKTHROUGHS ARE TIED TO FUN?

Breakthroughs happen and no doubt and they can happen anywhere. The most electrical is the one you have on stage. One night you just do something differently or try something new and your whole show forever. It can and does happen. You will know it when it strikes.....breakthrough!!! Oh yeah!

breakthroughs come in many forms.

Sometimes it's in the form of a punched up, juiced up punch line that suits you and your character better and so you begin writing like that more often. 
!
Occasionally it's in a timing thing where you hesitated longer than usual on a punch oooor rushed through a bit more only to discover the energy is better served here or there.... or not needed at all. 
!
Breakthroughs are often in wording...it finally dawns on you how to use an economy of words to get your point across...or a catch phrase occurs that describes you and your feelings at the moment. Catch phrases can be a GREAT breakthrough!!
!
Sometimes they're in character changes or the more real  you emerges. Breakthroughs are awesome and they're needed. If you haven't experienced a breakthrough recently it could be that you're not having as much fun as you should with this whole stand up comedy thing. 
!
Just watch children play, they have breakthroughs every 5 minutes. That's how you have to approach your comedy. Have fun, let go and allow the breakthroughs to burst through. They will, because they're everywhere. You just have to electrify yourself with enthusiasm for you comedy. That attracts them. ;)
